How is a CGM Different from Other Glucose Tests?

Edited

Traditional blood glucose tests provide only a moment-in-time view of your blood sugar levels. While helpful, they don’t show how your glucose changes throughout the day or respond to factors like meals, exercise, or sleep.

Here’s how a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) compares:

Traditional Glucose Tests:

  • Fasting Glucose / HbA1c
These are single-point blood tests taken after fasting or averaged over a few months. They offer limited insight into daily fluctuations.

  • Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
Measures your body’s response to a glucose drink over a 2-hour window — helpful for diagnosing diabetes, but again, very time-limited.

CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring):

  • Tracks your glucose levels continuously for 7–14 days.

  • Reveals real-time trends and responses to food, stress, sleep, and activity.

  • Allows for personalised insights on how your body manages glucose — helping inform long-term decisions on diet, lifestyle, and metabolic health.

Why It Matters

A CGM provides the full picture, not just a snapshot. This makes it an incredibly valuable tool in preventive health and precision care — enabling you and your Everlab care team to make informed, targeted decisions based on how your body truly functions over time.
