What if my CGM device is causing pain?

Edited

Your CGM should feel like a small bandaid—barely noticeable after the first day. If it's genuinely painful, something's not right.

What's Normal vs. What's Not

Normal Discomfort

  • Slight tenderness for the first few hours

  • Mild awareness that something's on your arm

  • Minor sensitivity when you bump it

This usually fades within 24 hours as your skin adjusts.

Pain That's Not OK

  • Sharp, persistent pain

  • Throbbing or burning sensations

  • Pain that gets worse instead of better

  • Discomfort that stops you sleeping or using your arm normally

Your Action Plan

Step 1: Remove it immediately Don't tough it out. If your CGM is causing real pain, take it off straight away. Your comfort and safety come first.

Step 2: Contact our Care Coordinators Let the Everlab Care Coordinator team know you've removed the device and why. They'll help you figure out next steps.

Step 3: Check the site Look for signs of infection, severe redness, or unusual swelling. If you're concerned about what you see, contact your GP.

Why This Might Happen

Sometimes the sensor hits a nerve or blood vessel. Other times, your skin just doesn't play nice with the adhesive. Neither scenario is your fault—bodies are different, and occasionally these things don't work out.

What Happens to Your Program?

Removing your CGM won't derail your health journey. Our team can adjust your nutrition review to work with other data sources. You'll still get valuable insights—just through a different path.

The Bottom Line

We want useful health data, not for you to be in pain. If your CGM hurts, feel free to contact the Care Coordinator team and we can guide you through what to do.
