What should I do if my audio isn’t working on Google Meet?

Edited

If you’re experiencing issues with your microphone or speakers during your Everlab video appointment, try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Google Meet Settings

  • Open Google Meet and start or join your meeting.

  • Click the three dots menu (⋮) at the bottom right of the screen.

  • Select Settings > Audio.

  • Under Microphone: Speak and see if the volume bar responds.

  • Under Speakers: Click Test to play a sound.

  • Adjust volume settings if needed.

2. Check Your Device’s Sound Settings

On Windows:

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar > select Sound settings.

  • Under Input, choose the correct microphone and check the volume level.

  • Under Output, select your preferred speaker/headphones and test the sound.

On Mac:

  • Go to System Settings > Sound.

  • Under Input, select the right microphone and check if it picks up sound.

  • Under Output, choose your correct speaker/headphones and test audio playback.

3. Check Browser Permissions

On Google Chrome:

  • Open a new tab and go to: chrome://settings/content/microphone

  • Make sure that Google Meet (https://meet.google.com) has microphone access.

  • Restart your browser after changing permissions.

On Safari:

  • Open Safari > go to Preferences (Settings on newer versions) > Websites > Camera & Microphone.

  • Find meet.google.com in the list and set Microphone access to "Allow".

  • If it’s not listed, you may need to visit the meeting link first to prompt Safari to ask for access.

  • After updating permissions, refresh the page or restart Safari.

4. Check for Background Apps

  • Close any apps that might be using your microphone (e.g. Zoom, Teams, screen recording tools).

  • If using Bluetooth headphones, double-check that they’re connected and selected as your input/output device in both your system and Google Meet settings.
